Soweto Kinch hits the streets of Birmingham

Whilst meandering through Birmingham city centre this fine afternoon, we happened to come across none other than local jazz/hip-hop hero, Soweto Kinch. What was he up to? Just freestyling in the middle of the street with a few of his friends, of course.

This went on for a good couple of hours. The man has serious freestyle skills.

What was this impressive display of lyrical skill in aid of? Kinch was promoting his upcoming event, The Flyover Show – an annual music & arts event under the Hockley Flyover. Back for its fifth consecutive year, the completely free one day celebration takes place next Saturday 18th August. Line up includes Maxi Priest, reggae legend Janet Kay, Brooklyn’s MC Wordsmith and Birmingham’s own Basil Gabbidon (Steel Pulse), Lady Leshurr, Deci4Life and Soweto Kinch himself. More info on The Flyover Show website.

Check out this dodgy phone footage of the freestyles from earlier today (luckily there is a man with a real camera there, so hopefully you can watch this in better quality at some point):
